Are you looking to do the chain replacement yourself this time around? Good idea! It's not complicated, and you only need a straightforward tool.

You may not be able to buy your replacement chain cut to the exact length that fits your bike. The measure is in the number of links. Usually, you buy it slightly longer, cut it down and then keep a few extra links in your trail kit along with a master link.

The problem is that most chain tools you'll see are either really cheap and rubbish quality or almost as costly as the chain you are trying to install. Here at Bushpig, we try to save on unnecessarily expensive tools that we rarely use, spending more on tools that get frequent use.

We searched for a simple tool that does the job well, is good quality, and reasonably priced. We tested it the hard way, pushing several pins without grinding the pinhead, and found it held up well.

Of course, when you are in the shop or garage, it's recommended that you grind off the chain pinhead before using the chain breaker tool. Grinding the pinhead will significantly reduce the tool's load and help prevent premature wear or damage to the tip.

It's worth noting that this chain breaker will push the pin entirely through the plates on chain size #420 to #530. Some chain breakers can't do it all the way, leaving you with more work to split the chain completely.

With an overall size of less than 5" x 2.5", this chain splitter is compact enough to find its way into your trail tool kit. You can see it on the last picture beside a closed Motion Pro version.

Note: This is only a chain breaker or splitter tool, not a riveting tool. We always favour clip-type master links for ease of use and easy repairs for our service. You can also use the tool to press the master link plates together to help install the clip.
