Have you heard about TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system)? If you drive a relatively recent car, it's the same technology used to display your tire pressure on the dashboard display.

It's a wireless system that gives you real-time tire pressure and tire temperature.

You may think it's just another gadget or not needed for ADV riding? Well, think about it. What type of ride is the most impacted by tire pressure? When you ride off-road in challenging conditions.

Not only is this kit simple to install (no wiring necessary with battery-powered display and valve caps), but the real advantage is knowing your tire pressure without having to dig out a pressure gauge from your bags or tool kit. It's always there, monitoring tire pressure in real-time.

From a cold morning start to riding two-up or with a heavier load, you always know your tire pressure instantly and understand how it impacts your grip, tread life, and overall performance.

Imagine rolling on a nail or getting a pinch flat. You will immediately get alerted thanks to the automatic fast leak detection that will beep and blink. You can also set up Low and High alerts for each tire on Pressure and Temperature.

Is it reliable? We have been running this system for more than three years now, and it's proven to be convenient. We don't carry a tire pressure gauge anymore.

You can also unscrew the cap a little to deflate as you get on the trail and screw it back to check the correct trail pressure. Need to check the tire pressure on a friend's bike or after a flat repair? Put a valve cap on their motorcycle.

How long do the batteries last?

The display goes to sleep automatically to save on battery life, but typically we charge it every six months (depending on how much time you spend on the bike, obviously and if parked out in the cold for winter).

The valve caps batteries last more than a year, but we change them for peace of mind at the beginning of every season. They're readily available in dollar stores.

Installation

  1. Remove the valve cap on each wheel (leaving the core in place).
  2. Screw the jamb-nut onto the valve stem that comes in the kit (we found it holds well without it).
  3. Screw the TPMS sensor onto the valve stem corresponding (marked FW and RW).
  4. Screw up the jamb nut and tighten gently.
  5. Locate a suitable place to mount the display unit using the included handlebar mount or anywhere you want on your dash using a standard 1/4"–20 UNC bolt (available in any camera store).
  6. Follow the manual to set up the parameters and do the pairing once.
